The Stripes For Success Program is a fabulous and proprietary program, created by World Champion Tae Kwon Do and found only at our schools.
It is used to motivate and reward our students for their hard work and good behavior. It is also designed to challenge each student to set goals
and work towards achieving them. All students will be requied to earn stripes (depending on age and level) in order to qualify for belt testing.
This system is intended to help build discipline, respect, good habits, better focus, and positive attitude. These qualities are needed in every
aspect of our lives – not just here in our Dojang.
Your student will be required to earn 6 Black Stripes, one Blue Stripe, one Red Stripe, and two Green Stripes in order to be eligible to participate
in Belt Testing. Yellow Stripes are not required, but definitely encouraged! We want to help in whatever way we can to ensure that every student is
successful. Together, we believe that we can encourage your student to be victorious in achieving every goal they set. All of these categories are
required behavior for a well rounded and happy life. Let’s work together as a team and help our World Champion Tae Kwon Do students achieve their dreams!
- Black Stripes / Star: Home Jobs and Responsibility (6 required for testing)
- Students earn Black Stripes for doing their home jobs. Each week the student must present Master Park with their completed Black Stripe
Form to earn their Black Stripe for the week. Please remember to bring the completed and signed form every week, your student can only
earn one stripe per week. At the end of the month, if your student has earned 4 Black Stripes, they will also be awarded a Star for their
uniform. Once your student has earned enough stars, they will receive a trophy at their next belt test.
- Blue Stripe: Knowledge Through Reading (1 required for testing)
- The Blue Stripe is earned when the student reads the required number of books based on his/her age or belt level. These books are chosen
by the student and/or parent and should be appropriate for the student’s abilities. However, we would like to encourage you to challenge
your child. This stripe is intended for them to gain knowledge of the people and world around them. As Master Park puts it, “You can
experience things and go to unknown places by reading a book.” Encourage your child to read books about exciting places and interesting
people. Help them find books that will interest them so that they will be motivated to read and explore. Any book that the student is
required to read for their school work can be counted towards this Stripe. Small picture books are adequate for the beginning reader.
We leave the decision up to you as a parent.
- Red Stripe: School Success (1 required for testing)
- The Red Stripe is given to a student when they bring back the Red Stripe Application. This is a progress report that will inform the
Master of his students’ performance in school. This is beneficial for several reasons. First: the Master will be able to see how his students
perform in other aspects of their lives. Second: This report will be used to gague improvements in a student who is struggling with homework,
behavior or attendance. Consistent problems will be discussed with the child and parent in an effort to help in any way possible. This is
intended to encourage each student to always do his/her best in school. Any improvement, even small, will be recognized and rewarded.
- Green Stripes: Tae Kwon Do Techniques (2 required for testing)
- Consistent attendance and hard work can each your student their Green Stripes. These Stripes are awarded when the student has demonstrated
that he/she has successfully memorized the Tae Kwon Do techniques required for their belt level: one stripe for their Form, and one stripe
for their One Step Sparring and Self Defense techniques. This will be evaluated during class time a few weeks before Belt Testing. If, for
some reason, the student fails to receive these stripes prior to Belt Testing, they will need to wait until tne next Belt Testing to test
for their next belt level. Instructors will challenge your child to perform at their very highest level and will give whatever direction
and encouragement they can to ensure they earn their stripes. However, each student is expected to work hard to achieve success!
- Yellow Stripes: Independent Responsibility (not required for testing)
- Yellow stripes are given to a student when they demonstrate that they can be responsible independently — without a parent or a teacher saying
anything to them about the job(s) they would like done. Each month, record at least 10 independently responsible tasks that your student has
performed on their Yellow Stripe Form. These tasks are anything you deem worthy, such as walking the dog without being asked, loading or
unloading the dishwasher without reminders, doing their homework right away after school instead of first playing video games, and so on.
Bring the completed and signed form once a month to Master Park, and he will award your student with a Yellow Stripe. If your student earns
3 Yellow Stripes before the next Belt Test, they will receive a medal at the Belt Ceremony.
